Rito – OtraDanza Company, Spain
🗓 30.11.2025 / 🕗 19:00
RITO is a dance installation with a syncretic vision of dance and contemporary art, using sacrificial rites to gods in ancient cultures, mainly 🇬🇷 Classical Greece and Aztec culture, linking avant-garde dance of the 20th century with myth. On one hand is the dance 👉 ephemeral, organic, elusive, living. On the other hand is the sculptural work 👉 embodied, ritual, circular, symbolic, approaching and revealing itself, preventing touch or damage. Rito is a repetition of the cult to ancestors toward Eros and Thanatos, regarding the striving for life and death and its cycle. The structure consists of three acts: call, sacrifice, and catharsis. The sound of 🔔 bells leads us to the place of the ceremony. Inside the altar there are two bodies, facing down. The sand is a mat for Greco-Roman wrestling. The dancers are the mythical bodies of the hero and heroine; they embody physical and athletic achievements but also uncertainty. After the ritual we leave the sanctuary, but something has changed: we are no longer the same.
