DDF: Branding the Unseen and PANOPTICON

Branding the Unseen – Vasiliki Papapostolou and Kali Tarassidou, Greece (double bill)

🗓 22.11.2025 / 🕗 19:00

Two female figures explore a liminal space 👉 part game, part stage, part mirror. From raw physical presence, they arrive at a stylized persona, moving through layers of representation, jumping between what is felt and what is performed. 👀 Drawing from urban dance, experimental movement, and digital aesthetics, the work traces the path from unfiltered impulse through coded identity: avatars sculpted by systems of power, visibility, and spectacle. Influencer, fighter, doll, vessel: roles multiply, crack, and reconfigure. What begins as play turns into a brand. In this saturated, self-governing landscape, the artists confront control not by rejecting it, but by reclaiming it.

PANOPTICON – Vasiliki Papapostolou, Greece (double bill)

🔎 In the 18th century, Jeremy Bentham created the Panopticon, a prison design emphasizing constant surveillance. Foucault argues that this concept reflects modern society, where individuals internalize external control, leading to self-surveillance. In the work “Panopticon,” red hands symbolize control, the constant monitoring of the body, which represents the human spirit struggling against mechanized existence focused on conformity and statistics. The work 💭 explores the internal conflict between the ego, superego, and the subconscious, highlighting the tension between order and chaos and the desire to control an unpredictable life. The protagonist grapples with the 💡 paradox of wanting visibility while feeling invisible, performing for others while questioning their own identity. Ultimately, the piece reflects on the meaning of life, the desire to avoid judgment, and the senselessness of social rules, portraying the soul trapped in a machine body within an increasingly predictable world.
