Using as a title the Greek prefix “amphi” – used to create words that indicates something on two sides or in two places, this work explores the range between points of similarity and the difference, looking for the way of cooperation between two people, in the absence of a conventional “duet”. The starting point of our research field is the behavior of two elements in a condition of coexistence. Defining as “elements” all the sensory means used during a performance, we study how the concept of duality can be applied to the core of a performance work, looking for answers through the term of “counterpoints” and specifically through the techniques of “imitation” in composition, known for their use in different times for different purposes, both in choreography and music. Thus, with this handling of the material, we seek as a result the sense of two “lines” or “objects”, coexisting in the same time and space, fully communicating with each other, while functioning individually, each with its own unique purpose and existence.
Barbara Bardaka studied at SEAD (Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance) where she realized her love for creation, improvisation, performing and research. She then followed teachers who inspired her such as Linda Kapetanea, David Zambrano, Edivaldo Ernesto and others, establishing her personal path. She has been hosted in residencies in Greece such as Kinitiras while she participated with her own creations in festivals of Kinitiras, Dance Days Chania, DLR, Kalamata International Dance Festival, Athens Video Dance Project etc. From 2021 she develops and teaches the KYS improvisation method to professionals and amateurs in various festivals, professional dance schools and studios in Greece and Cyprus. In the current period she is in collaboration with Ioulia Zaharaki in the creative process of their joint project “AMFI”, with a grant from the Ministry of Culture of Greece. https://www.instagram.com/barbara_bardaka/?hl=en
