“Aerowaves in Sofia” is a festival for contemporary dance that showcases some of the most notable
performances from the European and world stage, created in recent years. The initiative for this event
belongs to the Derrida Dance Center, which is the first center for contemporary dance in Bulgaria and a
long-term partner in Aerowaves dance across Europe. Each year, artists from various parts of Europe
apply for inclusion in the TOP20 of Aerowaves, and an international jury has the important task of
selecting the TOP20 most interesting performances from over 700 submissions.
The festival program for “Aerowaves in Sofia” 2024 includes three titles from the Aerowaves TOP20,
three performances selected by the team at Derrida Dance Center, and presentations of the results from four residencies within the Residency Program of Derrida Dance Center, as well as a program supporting Bulgarian choreographers.
The audience will have the opportunity to experience diverse aesthetic forms and dramaturgical
directions in contemporary dance, with performances from Germany, Spain, France, Luxembourg,
Portugal, the Netherlands, and Peru. This year, the organizers will again provide opportunities for the
audience to meet guest artists by participating in discussion meetings after each performance.
Additionally, the festival program will feature eight dance workshops, accessible to professional dancers
and choreographers from Bulgaria.
